Muslims are the largest group of people who live in extreme poverty in the world today Today over 500 million Muslims live in extreme poverty. From being leaders of the world in trade and commerce for almost 1,000 years, Muslims have now become one of the poorest communities. At the beginning of the 19th Century approximately 5% of the worlds population were Muslims and they accounted for some 20% of the worlds trade and commerce. Today Muslims account for about 25% of the worlds population but account for only about 5% of the worlds GDP. What has gone wrong? Why are millions of Muslims worldwide falling into the poverty trap every year when Muslim countries are rich in natural resources?
