When a person puts themselves forward to represent other people in public office, it’s imperative that the people they represent know exactly how they vote on every issue affecting their lives. Secret ballots invite bribery and corruption because public servants (politicians) can be influenced, bribed or black mailed by powerful vested interests, who wish to skew the outcome of ballots in a certain direction. As far as I am aware from my extensive travel to many Muslim countries and some research on this matter, Muslim communities historically had open voting. The exceptions being matters of sensitive national security which requires secrecy and therefore are decided behind closed doors.
